The Second ASPCP International Conference for Philosophical Practice was held on May 18 and 19, 2007 at Purdue University Calumet in Hammond, Indiana in the United States.
For most of this country’s history, philosophy has been confined primarily to academies of higher learning. Only in the past few decades have philosophers begun to take up private practice outside the academy. Since the early nineties, the ASPCP has provided a forum for this developing professional area. Now it is pleased to host its Second International Conference in kind cooperation with Purdue University-Calumet. In the past decade or so since the first ASPCP international conference, philosophical practice has made some strides in self-definition, but there are many conceptual and practical obstacles still before it. We expect that The Second ASPCP International Conference for Philosophical Practice will help to shed new light on where the practice has been, what it has learned, and what it can hope to attain in the Twenty First Century. In this regard, the ASPCP mission has always emphasized the mutually supportive roles of philosophy and psychology in philosophical practice. As such, we encourage philosophers and psychologists alike to attend and contribute to the conference proceedings. Workshops/training sessions in alternative philosophical modalities are also planned.
